My filter media is getting really old now. i changed my Foam insert and you guys said that was bad, so I haven't touched the filter since. I can understand hanging the foam in my aquarium or even the bio-max but the carbon will make my water black! How do I solve this? Should I change the carbon or not?

Can you just change the carbon out? If you can, do that because it expires. Rinse the rest of the media in used tank water if the media is gunky.

Okay Hows This Sound? I will change the carbon monthly...Rinse the sponge out and change it when its falling apart and useless and then hang the old one in the tankuntil the new one is well seasoned...and i dont think i need to change the bio max ever do i?

That's right
I'm assuming bio-max is a wheel, the main coarse sponge in your filter or ceramic.

No the bio-max is lil ceramic cylinders inside a nylon bag that just fits in the filter. Oh and can u check out my dead skin thread please
