newbie needs help again...

Hi, I have a 60 ltr tank, which is 1 week old, i used a liquid cycle to bypass the cycle and added 4 zabra danios 2 days later, they were fine so added 5 neon tetras 2 days later. on the same day i gave them some bloodworm and then the next mornin i got up and 1 zebra was nearly dead and 1 tetra is missing (searched the whole tank he aint there, unless he can get sucked in filter)
Checked water temp is around 24.5 and pH is 8.0, amonia is fine but nitrates are over 0.3mg/l
Does anyone know what happend? i.e why the zebra died and why the nitriets rose. also where could my tetra have gone?
Thanks guys
ps, when do i do my first water change?

Your nitrites are rising because it's a normal part of the nitrogen cylce

I'm sorry you've lost fish. ammonia and nitrites are toxic to them.
Start doing daily water changes until your readings are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites with 5-10 nitrates showing. If you use Prime as your water conditioner, it'll detox ammonia and nitrites for 24 hrs between water changes.

What product did you use? Most bacterial additives contain the wrong kind of bacteria, It uses up the ammonia your tank need to properly cylce.

Good luck

Cycle contains the wrong kind of bacteria. It's not self sustaining and dies off quickly.
It uses the ammonia your tank needs to cycle. It would be a good idea to stop using it and do daily water changes until your tank finishes cycling.
Can you get Stress Coat+, that also detox's for 24 hrs.

Also, I mentioned this in your other thread, but it's worth mentioning again. For your privacy, it would be a good idea to change your user name to something other than your e-mail address. Glad I could help.
Have patience, cycling takes a while. Keep up the water changes and you'll get there.

Is nitrate .3mg/l or 3mg/l? How about nitrite (NO2)?
Is there a reason for pH being so high for type of fish you have?
In simple language, the difference of Concentration of Hydrogen ion (H+)for each number is 10 fold. Although some out many of one type of fish can tolerate/adapt to such extreme pH, at least we dont have worry/concern about wether pH caused death of fish if given proper pH to begin with.
Maybe your tap water is high in pH? or could it be type of gravel/deco which is causing pH to be alkaline (basic)?

If nitrate is up as you said, maybe due to product you added.
Perform test on tap water and and do another one w/ tap+drop of additive to see if the reading are due to additives.
You could same test for Ammonia (NH3) and NO2.

Post the results so have understanding of your tank!

Nitrites os 0.3 and the ph is 8.0 which i thought was about right, i stand to be corrected however.

your pH is fine for those fish, generally most fish can adapt to a wide range of pH and it's more stressful on them to change it than to just let them acclimate to the pH that you have, so i wouldn't worry about that too much
