Well if you feel comfortable having someone else be in the know on your aquariums condition your all set. But I personally would want to have control of my own testing 24/7 so I could take the appropriate action necessary to save on such a big investment of fish and time.
There are also services available in most metropolitan areas where you can have someone take total care of your aquarium for you for a nominal fee, about $30-50 a month I think which in your case may turn out to be cost effective.
To answer your question, I have always liked schooling fish, how about putting in some Neons with those zebras, they make a good combo long term or short.
But the key here is to take it slow as suggested especially since you have come this far so well. Allow time to get the numbers right and good bacteria to grow before adding too many fish too quickly. Since you have a
LFS guy you can trust, just work with him often or at the first sign of trouble as new aquariums can crash faster then it takes to eat a large meal.
