with the python you just treat the water after it goes in, and you treat it for the amount of gallons that the whole tank holds, rather than just how many you're adding if that makes sense

I just pour the dechlor in the stream of water as it goes into the tank.

Or... Pour the dechlorinator into the tank before you pump the water back in.

but the water conditioner would take some time to get to the new water. im afraid it would kill the bacteria before it started working!

I do it all the time, and have for a long long time w/ no ill effects. I use the water conditioner and put it in as I put in the new water.

No, the dechlorinator is almost instant. The small amount of chlorine in tap water takes quite awhile to start damaging cells, so it won't be enough to disrupt the cycle. I have used it for months now with no issues.

ok i will have to believe you. i have a 75 gal and that is too much water to be carring in buckets, especially with a fifty % water change coming!

Buying a 90g tank was what got me to buy a Python. You're right, it's just a pain.

Well just talked to my LFS family owned and operated. trust very much as they go with fishless cycling and the one inch rule. and will even ask you to bring in your water for testing before they will sell to you. they also will ask you what size tank you have and whats in it and not let you buy a fish that is unsuitable for the tank.

that said, they will not even sell that type of syphon that attaches to the sink because you can not treat the water before it enters the tank.

the idea he gave me so that i dont break my back with water changes is to fill an empty trash can next to my tank and treat it then syphon it into the tank.

you pour it in the tank before the water goes in ...im glad the fishstore does many many things right ...especially making sure tanks are cycled..MOST do not...they are a reputable place...but they are not correct on the python not being good for you..but its a personal choice by all means...goodluck!! (I do the bucket method so im there with ya)
