| | Fish Helper | Arowana! What do I feed my Arowana that has just lost his yolk sac? I'm planning to upgrade to a bigger tank. I put in some Tropical Granules and he ate some is that okay for him? Thanks! |

| | Fish Helper | It is okay for it right now, but should be fed freeze dried or live brine shrimp, black worms and soon very small fish such as white cloud minnows. |

| | Fish Master | Wow, what size tank are you upgrading to? |

| | Fish Mentor | Along what FishKing said about small fish - you could try breeding guppys for the babies? Of course, you could keep the best quality fry if you wanted... Or you personally don't like the idea (I'm not an acctual fan of that myself - but everyone is entitled to their own opinion ), but just a suggestion. |

| | Fish Keeper | Feeding live fish is a risky buisness as you don't know what diseases they might be carrying if bought from a petstore. My Oscar eats Guppys but I breed these myself. |

| | Moderator | As has been said above, breeding your own fish is one way to go. Otherwise, other live/fresh/frozen food such as worms, shrimp, beef heart, etc... will do well. The important thing is to vary the feeding.
I'm guessing that you already know that, in the long run, that fish is going to need a tank that's at least a couple of feet on the shortest side, and significantly longer. The good news is that they can live in relatively shallow water. |

| | Fish Keeper | If just lost yolk sac, , coud try fry of livebearers as other mentioned. But I had better success w/ FD plankton (chopped up to samll size individually) since FD stayed float for while. They can use too much energy trying to catch frys at his point, IMO, depending on size of tank. FD plankton doesnt require chasing at least. Would try frys when arowanas are bit larger. |

| | Fish Keeper | Won't you need like a swimming pool for a fish that big? Don't they get to be like 4 or 5 feet? |
| |

|
| | Fish Master | Yeah, certain types reach 4 ft.
Most are kept in 1000 gal. tanks. |

| | Fish Master | lol.
I know, when I go to aquariums that have arowana & pacu I wonder who the poor soul is that gets to go for a swim of something goes wrong in the tank.
The National Zoo in DC has a beautiful amazon exhibit with these fish. |

| | Moderator | One of the best exhibits at St Paul's Como Zoo is an Amazon river exhibit, with thousands and thousands and thousands of gallons, deeper areas for the arowana and pacu, and shallower places for the smaller fish, stingrays, and catfish. |

| | Fish Helper | Don't they have an exhibit for Discus too? I went to the Baltimore Aquarium and they had a MASSIVE Arowana and some Discus! It was an amazing sight to behold! |
