| Well, it depends on the puffer... obviously with one as big as a porcupine you don't want any little fish.
I know that people have kept some kinds with clowns (at least ocellaris and false-percula, I've heard true percs may be too aggressive, at least for GSPs), wrasses, blunt-toothed eels... basically any fish that won't let itself get pushed around, and is a fast swimmer. |

| Wow that leaves a lot of fish. I don't know if I would put a clownie in the tank, maybe a dwarf angel or two. |

| Our Walmart has a tank full of fat yellow Puffer fish. They must have tough immune systems cause they are all missing something in the way of fins. One poor devil actually has no back fin appendage like he is a total ball healed up and still hovers around spinning like a Helicopter without a rear counter blade. Id love to buy one of those spotted hover fish but I hear they attack and bit anything. |

Lots of research, and keeping water conditions perfect is necessary. For brackish puffers the only thing more you'll need is a pH-buffering substrate (such as aragonite) and to add marine salt (thus requiring a hydrometer/ refractometer)
For SW, you'll want all the above plus lots of live rock and an oversized protein skimmer.
All puffers need lots of water movement. |
