Redtail blackshark hugging heater?

Hi Guys,

My redtail blackshark appears to be sitting on the heater quite a lot, is he cold? the temperate is like 22 degrees+

He isnt showing signs of illness or anything his just swimming and eating normally when he isnt sat on the heater, is it just where he likes to sit? he used to hide under the castle but doesnt anymore..

My shark hinds under my heater. Is you're tank brightly lit?

I would raise the temperate to around 26 at least, since the gouramis you have like warmer water too.

Try giving the shark a real cave, like a cleaned-out coconut shell or something similar.

Hi and welcome.

Is that a 40litre Biorb? ( ie 8uk gals?) if it is I think you may be going to hit problems with your fish very soon

An RTBS alone gets to be 6" and needs at least a 10 gal tank and 22 degs is on the low side for him he likes 23 - 26 Deg
The Dwarf Gourami only gets to about 3" but needs a temp of 25-28 degs
the Blue will get to about 6" again and also needs a 20gal and again 22 degrees is on the low side for him
I am not sure about the Golden but i would assume he has the same requirements as the Blue

While the fish are young you may not see many problems but as they grow you will agression in the tank and you will struggle to maintain the water in a safe condition for your fish

Yeah the size of the tank changes the senario greatly here.

I have just bought a more powerful heater and will up the temperature as recommended. Glad that my shark isnt the only one hugging the heater.

And please dont worry I am aware of how big they'll grow - I am very new to fish but I do make a point of finding out before I buy them how big they'll get.

I will be starting to Cycle the next BiOrb up (which is double the size, 16 Gallons) as soon as I finish its setup ready for fish growth, at the minute though my RTBS is really little, his about 4.5 cms long.

Thanks for your help as alwys guys. Noted all info on my records and will ensure fish are properly accomodated, I wont be getting anymore now either.
