Can opaline or blue/gold gourami be with cardinal tetras?

First, I'd just like to thank everyone for all your help and answers from the numerous amount of other questions I've asked. And the last one about the goldfish, You'll be happy to know that I've decided not to add the goldfish in with my tropical fish.

So, back to my question. I need a centerpiece fish. So I'll be having:
- 10 harlequins
- 8 cardinals tetra
- 1 britlenose pleco
- 3 oto catfish
( 50 gallon planted )

I saw lots of gouramis at my local fish store yesterday. They weren't pearl gouramis for sure. I think they are opaline, blue and gold gouramis; they were in the same tank. They were all babies, about 3 inches.

I just need to know if opaline, blue or gold gouramis can be put with cardinal tetras, because I know they are semi aggressive, so I'm not sure if they may hurt my cardinals, harlequins or otos.

I know pearl gouramis would be fine, but they didn't have any.

They also had a lot of baby angelfish, about 3 or 4 inches. They were kind of striped in black and white. And some were all black. Should I get a few angels instead?

If I decide on the gouramis, I'll likely get 1 gold, and 2 blue gouramis. So 3 all together.

If I decide on the angelfish, I'll likely get 2.

They also had a ton of baby clown loaches. Would it be fine if I got 2 of them?

Thank you.

Please tell me if you think there would be a better centerpiece fish that would go better in my aquarium.

Also, would 2 or 3 Dwarf african frogs be fine?

first, a definite no on the clown loaches!!!! they get absolutely HUGE (over 12 inches long and very deep bodied) and two would need 125+ gallon tank.

for the angelfish, you'd be taking a bit of a gamble. IMO they are more likely to go after your tetras than the gouramis. you've got a little better of a chance since they are juvies and will grow up with the tetras, but ther is always that chance.

you could try a bolivian ram or two german blue rams for your "centerpiece" fish.

oh, and thanks for doing right by your goldies

I've been thinking of getting a gold or opaline for my community tank as well... The good people at my LFS have told me that if I were to get a single female, I'd probably be okay, but no guarantees.

I wouldnt put that many gourami's together.

I have two blue's in my 70 gallon tank and their still somewhat agressive at each other, not bad though, each has its territory.

And I have many other tropical fish that they get along fine with =)

Rainbows, swordtails, ect.

The gourami's can be violent at times and they might eat your neons so be careful!
