| Angelfish: The stealth destroyer. So, I have been constantly wondering about my Mollies.. why they haven't given me any fry yet.. and I kept thinking about it.. so I decided to try my hands with guppies (I was slightly understocked in my 55). Yesterday was their first time inside of the actual tank, but this morning I am missing one!
And now, looking online, I see that Angelfish can be little sneaky things that like to munch of smaller fish.
So, do you think my Angel has been eating any fry that my mollies may have produced, and have eaten my female guppy?
There are a few hiding spots, but at the same time i can easily see around them and in them, so it's not like she's hiding from me. Plus, the other 2 are hanging out together and I thought she would be with them as well.
I love my Angelfish, but ugh.. I can't have her destroying my guppies LOL |

| most any fish will eat smaller fish ...especially fry ..they think its food naturally...what else are in the tank? a guppy is kinda big for an angel to get in their mouth but I have no doubt that they got your fry |

| Have your mollies been pregnant? Angel's are cichlids, so they will eat smaller fish if given the oppertunity. |

| banjos are carnivore so they could have done it also...altho any of those fish will eat fry...but a guppy is pretty big ..have you checked your filter intake ? |

| I have some of the filter media wrapped around the filter intake to prevent fish from being sucked in, so I don't think she is in there. I did check just now (to be safe) and I have confirmed nothing inside the filter.
edit:
just found her. She is dead and stuck inside of the hornwort =/ |

| White Clouds are an easy meal for the Angel depending on the size of your Angelfish. By the way what's a Hornwort? |

| My mollies let out fry pretty frequently and it never took more than a day or two for the angels to hunt them all down. Sorry about the guppy, at least you found her before she cause an ammonia spike and made major problems. |

| Yeah i'm glad I found her so soon. Don't know how she died.. and the only thing I can think of is stress. They were freaked when I moved them from QT to Display, and so I am guess overnight she just passed away. Might have to go to the LFS to get another female so the ratio is good again.. |

On a more cheerful note, I saw my male guppy chasing the female. It doesn't happen a lot (since i've seen them), and usually they are not around each other, but they were at that moment and he was chasing her. So we shall see what happens. |

| Guppies used to be kept with angelfish to provide them with fresh live food every so often . ( the fry ) and will eat them with much gusto. |

| Yeah I figured that lol.. I have a breeder box (one that stays inside of the tank) that I can use.. just have to be careful so that I don't cause the female to abort... but it's a lot easier then the hang on back ones as I don't have to take her out of the water.. |

| Sorry you lost your fish.
Yes, angels will eat anything they can fit in their mouth. If I see feeder guppies that look small I sometimes get some as live food for my angels. They are gone within seconds of dumping them in with the angels. Occasionally one or two will get away but never for very long. I have rummy nose tetras though and octo cats that don't get eaten so its really just a matter of what will fit in their mouth.
In an old tank I had mollies in with angels and tried a breeder net for the molly. The angels would never move from that net/box they would wait for a baby molly to be on the bottom of the net and pinch them through the net, not really able to eat them but killing them just the same.
Angels seem so pretty and docile but put your hand near their eggs some time and look out! |

I guess thats why they say get more females than males.
I can't wait to get another tank someday so I can get mollies again, they're so much fun to watch. |
