3 dead fish

I put new plants in my aquarium 2 days ago, and noticed the dead plant leaves scattered all over my tank, can this cause a ammonia spike, because all of a sudden my ammonia is .50, and 3 fish have died.

water change. Big one. If you say you have three dead fish, I'm guessing your aquarium information isn't updated, so what size is the tank and what are the inhabitants? What are the other water parameters? Was the tank cycled? I would remove any dead leaves, although I don't know enough about plants to say if that was the cause.

Plants should be helping your tank not killing your tank. Do you have your reading on nitrite and nitrate because .5 ammonia might not have been the only factor that killed your tank. Sorry about your 3 Fish Funerals I feel so bad when my fish passes on

I'm really sorry you've lost fish.
Yes, you need to remove dead leaves right away, when they rot they create ammonia.
A few daily water changes should get your cycle back.
Good luck.

Wow, I'm really slow. lol

It looks like you are using stress zyme in your tank??
That may be your problem as that will not cycle the tank properly. I would discontinue use (as I did the same thing!) and switch to using Tetra Safe Start (TSS)or daily water changes using Prime or Stresscoat + (Not ZYME)
The plants could cause an ammonia spike nonetheless I would recommend water changes or TSS.

Thanks for all the help. I lost 2 platies and a cory cat . Now im down to 2 platies and adwarf gourami. Its a 30 gallon. Its been running for a few weeks. I've test the ammonia the day before i put the plants in and it was 0. I also put in flora pride, and amquel+, and aquasafe into the tank at the same time as the plants because i did a water change at the same time. Did i put in to many chemicals?
