Baby Arowanna and Discus?

I was planning to get a Baby Arowanna and put them with my Discus, here comes my first Question Are they compatible? How do you care for a baby arowanna? What is the orange-yellow sac under the arowanna? How long does it take for the orange yellow sac to go away?

Sorry for all the Questions....

Do you eventually have plans to move it to a 300+ gal. tank when it's full grown? They reach 4 ft. in length.

In the wild they usually get about 47-50 inches. In an aquarium setting they usually only get 24-30 inches. They can live in a 125 gallon with discus. I know this because I own discus and my friend has an arowana with his discus. Booyah!!

No offense, and this isn't at all personal, but it's usually not the best idea to buy a fish planning to upgrade to a larger tank, especially one that big, and in this economic situation. If you honestly believe you can get the tank, that's great, but I would really think it through. Good luck, though, that would be a really cool tank.

Not to be rude but...why ask these questions if you were already planning to do it
The orange sac hanging from their belly is a yolk sac. Fry are hatched with these and gradually absorb them as an energy source, see,s Arowana keep them longer than most fish.

I have seen larger in aquaria. Since they are jumpers the top of the aquarium needs to be securely covered and weighted. My friends Arowana broke several glass tops from jumping against it and was rescued from the floor several times after breaking those glass tops. Slick(the fishes name) was in a 250g tank. He was found one morning dead on the floor(his tank was in his shop) where he had dislodged a double glass top with bricks on it to hold it down.
It seems to me that a fish this boisterous would be disturbing to Discus.

Can the size of the arowana be stunted?

no, definatly not, if you are worried about the size why not look at the spiny eels instead?

001-8.jpg this is a pic of my 12" oscar with a 1 1/2 year old arowana ... not a good fish for discus

why would some one spend the time and money on discus to have them for a meal eventually for the arowana? because it will happen ....

fish will grow to the size of tank but their inside organs continue to grow until they die slowly from lack of growth
