How to transport fish and a great LFS!

WOOOHOO! I finally found a great fish store. Some might recall my post "sick of the killing" where every store in my town that sells fish had sick fish dying in the tank, bad plants, bad advice, etc.
Well my problems are over! 30 minutes from my town is this great store called Nui Kai in Medford Oregon. I knew from the minute I saw the tanks it was going to be the right place for me. They are gorgeous with healthy active fish that aren't overstocked. The gold fish were kept in ponds! The plants were actually aquarium plants and not something that was going to melt in my water and the were SOOOO many varieties to choose from. More important....they recommend fishless cycling!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to dance as I was leaving. I am so happy my days at bad shops are over!!!!
Quick question though...since it is 30 minutes away, when I am buying fish what type of advice do you have for transport? Do plants need special attention as well?

PS-
For those who have had bad advice and experience at stores....take your business elsewhere. There ARE good shops out there and they should be rewarded! It will take more planning on my part to shop with them (buying stuff before I run out etc.) but I know my money is going into a great part of the hobby!

Nice to hear that you found such an awsome store.
For transporting you fish 30 minuets I'd suggest taking a cooler with you to the store so that their water doesn't cool too much and so the travel doesn't stress them.

I'll be doing the same thing, so I did a search of the forums for transporting fish.
Had posts about moving fish 1500 miles and 1hr trips from the shop.

Most everything about trips from the shop said cover them with a towel, run the heater a bit warmer, or use a cooler.
I have a softside lunch/six-pack cooler that I'll be using.

im glad you found a good LFS in your area. i have one that keeps fish in species only tanks :P with different strains of guppies sepparated from each other. they also keep bettas in their own tanks, not community ones . unfortunaltely its around a 50 minute drive away

when i transfered some fish i put them in some bags (that i got when i bought new fish home) then inside a large plastic lunchbox, then wrapped them in a towel, they were fine for a good 20 minute journey

ask them not to feed the fish because they can die from feeding and a long road trip! Put them in a cooler where no light can be seen from the fish. The plants on the other hand can be outside where it can capture sunlight. Good Luck!

Thanks for the great tips as always everyone!
It doesn't sound like it will be too difficult from the sound of things. Interesting point about feeding the fish...I hadn't even considered that.
Thanks again,
Nate
