Dwarf Gouarmi - Dying?

Hello guys

BiOrb 30 - Freshwater tank, temperature is kept at between 22-23 degrees and regular water tests taken to my local Halls or Pets at Home Centre.

Water is changed (around 30% of it) weekly etc and care packs added accordingly.

We have 4 fish in the tank at present including a Dwarf Gouarmi (Our first fish in this 4-5 month old tank) usually when we walk past etc he is straight up to the top of the tank hoping for food, or right to the front to shout at us etc.

He has a lump on the side of his face now - if he were a human I'd say it was on the side of his cheek its just diagonally away from his eye (not too close to his eye tho). Someone posted a thread on this forum about Dwarf Gouarmi with a wart like lump, this isn't quite as big and doesnt have a pink bit on the end.

Though I have noticed the change in his behaviour, he isnt as active as he was and seems to be staying lower in the tank? Last week I introduced a Three spot blue gouarmi and a golden gouarmi into the tank - could this have anything to do with it?

I'm really not sure what this could be but he definately doesnt seem 'himself' so any advice would be really appreciated.

Many thanks.

Luke

Welcome Luke, can you post a pic of this lump on the gourami, you might also want to increase the temp of your tanks to around 25 degrees

Good morning Mike,

I didnt get time to get a picture before work this morning tried, but he kept moving to the power part of the back of the tank - I will get one and put it up as soon as I get back. It doesnt look as bad as the one on the other guys thread where his gouarmi has a wart-like lump.

I will also put up the temperature if you think this is needed? It's at the current temperature as per Halls when I first got my dwarf gouarmi

Here is a link of some freshwater fish profiles, you can check their requirements along with temperature. http://www.fishlore.com/freshwaterfish.htm also here is a thread of something which maybe similar to what your gourami has, there are some pictures which might help you out It shouldn't be getting worse should it?

Hi again, sorry to bump this up from last week.

I was advised to treat my tank with Methylene blue by my local pets at home as I am told this is a 'generic' treatment for most common fish problems.

Obviously I know it wont be a miracle cure etc, the fish is now sitting on the bottom a lot, but he seems to move around a little when I come near the BiOrb.

He has a long transparent coming out of him at the minute, he has had it for a good 15-16 hours and its getting longer?? Is this signs of an internal parasite or something? and if so is that something the Methylene might help with?

I do believe that is a sign of internal parasites. From what I understand the best treatment is medicated food (if you can get them to eat it). The second best is adding a medicine to the water. I really don't know if Methylene Blue is a remedy for internal parasites, so I can't help you there.

i agree. i dont know about methylene blue specifically, but i know a lot of people recommend maracyn and maracyn II (they treat different things but i think can be used together). you might want to just check around and see what kind of medicines are used for parasites, and then post the ones you're thinking about using. hopefully a member has used that medication and can tell you if it worked for them

LukeH;i have been dealing with worms for a while now- Jungle makes a Parisite-Clear med the is rather good and they also make an internal one-a lot at your LFS, that you can choose from and yes the white waste is diff; a sign of worms lol Good Luck-bella

appreciate your advice guys, I will try some anti parasite stuff also once the Methylene is cleared.

the good news is he seems a little better now, was swimming around with his mates at the front of the tank this morning instead of sitting on the bottom of the tank looking grim

so hopefully the methylene has helped things a bit or he just happens to have got better naturally
