Dying fish?

I have a pictus catfish (which is supposedly supposed to be very active) and a blue gourami ( I got both yesterday) but they are both just hiding in the plants. They wont even come up for food, they just run and hide when i come over. What do I do and is this normal?

If you could update your aquarium info, it would be helpful. I forget from your previous threads.
What size tank? How many and what kind of fish?
What are your readings for ammonia nitrites and nitrates? Is the betta in the tank?

Edit: I merged your threads. Please stick to one thread per question. It makes things less confusing.
Thanks

they'll hide if they are sick, scared, adjusting to a new environment, adjusting to new tank mates, lots of reasons.

like lucy said, it'll help us figure out what's wrong to have your aquarium info filled out. thanks

They are probably very stressed. Just keep enticing them with food. They should come around. Is the tank cycled? Your tank info doesn't say.

its about 3 weeks into the cycle, my LFS man told me it was time to add 1 or 2 fish now and then 1 or 2 more in a few weeks

What are your exact test readings? They are sort of crucial so that we can diagnose if it's ammonia poisoning.

So, 3 weeks into the cycle and your LFS said add fish now. What were you using to cycle before you added fish?

What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings please? Since you are 3 wks into cycle the members here need to know what your readings are so they can help you.

sorry! I don't know how else because nobody answers my questions unless I re-ask it.

I dont have an ammonia test kit but I got it tested 2 days ago and they said it was miniscule. The others they said were "perfect"

Uh Oh, Ok....you need to get your own test kit tomorrow! API Master Test kit
Since you have new fish they are just prob gettin used to their new home but since your tank is 3 weeks into cycle and you relied on your LFS, well all they want to do is sell fish and will tell you your water is fine, even if its not. Unless you trust your LFS.
