Interesting Behavior

Hey all,

Just thought I’d share some of the more entertaining behaviors I’ve noticed in my 20G community tank as its matured:

-My Zebra Danios (5) don’t seem to school very often, and they stay in the mid to lower region of the tank with the rest of the fish, they typically only hang out at the surface at feeding time

-My juvenile female guppy is ~1”, and she schooled with the neon tetras (7) for at least a month, she’s just this week started to hang out with the other female guppy, who’s full grown (still spends about 50% of the time with the tetras, they freely school with her)

-The neons and guppys come to the front of the tank and follow me, hoping to get fed (I’ve heard of this in much bigger fish, but its funny to see the whole school of neons follow you from one end of the tank to the other)

-All of my fish (neons, zebras, and guppys) have started imitating my panda cory catfish (3). After feeding them, if they’re still hungry, I’ve observed all of them rooting through the substrate alongside the corys, looking for additional food, or maybe just playing “monkey see, monkey do”

I thought it was pretty interesting. I suppose that’s why it’s called a community aquarium!

Lol, fish are pretty ridiculous some times. My platy at times will do laps around the tank about 10 times in the same pattern and then stop. He will also cower in fear when I look into the tank and at other times he swims right up to the front to greet my... I'm pretty sure I have a bi-polar fish.

My Danios only school when nervous. The Dwarf Gourami shows off when we are near the tank - swimming back and forth many times. I assume he's begging for food.

My dwarf gourami frustrates me sometimes. He only wants to eat food other fish are already eating. After he finishes the floating flakes...he'll hover above my corys waiting for them to dig something up or find a flake/pellet/wafer/worm. Once he discovers someones enjoying some food, he'll push his way towards it (the otos and corys don't care, they pile all over him trying to get back to eating). But once the corys move on to something else, the gourami will drop whatever food he was eating then go over to take over that food instead.
