...and then there was one

So it would seem my efforts to save my four Guppies from ICH were in vain. I know have a solitary guppy, who seems to be very healthy. But after the third died today his behavior is a quite erratic. He swims from one end of the tank to the next, seemingly looking for his pal

Obviously with a recently infected tank I have to wait a bit before adding new fish. I am wondering if this lone survivor will make it on its own. I read that guppies are communal fish and with no tank mates will this effect his lifespan and overall well-being?

Any kind of stress has effects on fish.
He should be ok until things get sorted out and you can add more friends for him. Maybe add some more decorations in the mean time to keep him occupied.

im sorry for the losses of your fish he probably misses all his buddies did you treat the tank with meds for ich? just to be safe, id check the water parimeters to make sure you didnt loose the cycle from treating the tank before adding more...I hope things look up!

I often wonder if during times like this to help make fish more comfy would a mirror placed near the tank give them the securety they crave?? Kinda like keeping a budgie company with a mirror?? Any thoughts folks??

They DO notice mirrors. My friend had a betta he used to hold a mirror to make it flare (I dont know if thats the right term!) out and get pictures of it.

It was too funny, it calmed him down instantly. He stopped frantically pacing the tank and swam right up by the mirror and he is just hanging out there now doing his little loop swim in the water.

Hopefully that will keep him amused for at least a week to ensure my tank is free of ich. I noticed my ammonia levels finally dropped down to zero today which means my cycle is at the very least kick-started again. won't be able to test nitrate/nitrite until the weekend.

Hope the little guy survives all this, I am really quite shocked at how attached you get to your fish. I never would have guessed it
