Good read, Mike. I followed some other links this article suggested as well- I am going to have to get my old chem, bio-chem, and organic textbooks out in order to sort some of this stuff out, though! Thanks!

Apparently news travels slow in the aquarium community. Apparently API began testing of their new ammo-lock formula in 1990 and released the new formula in 1996. OH well… better late then never I guess.

Come again? What formula are you talking about? Your saying the formula we're being told is new from 2008 isn't really new?

I'm lost.

That would be the same formula. API had the University of Georgia, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Medical Microbiology conduct the studies and those studies were concluded in early 1996 and apparently the current formula was released in late 1996.

Interesting, im surprised during that period no one would have caught on it or at least from what i have seen other forums/question boards views on ammo-lock are similar to those on fish lore.

im hard to believe words ..even a few different ppl....im the "why fix it if it isnt broke" kinda person...not saying ammo lock doesnt do as they say and does keep the ammonia availble for the cycle , who cares when it was done as long as we know now, but im not trusting it and im sticking with my stresscoat+ as its never failed me and its cheap by the gallon and does MANY things most of us need in a tank ...ive also dumped prime and just use the stress coat+ only ...hahah

What I don't get is why, when Shawnie called the API reps, they said it was changed in the last year or so, or did I misunderstand that?

The whole thing makes no sense. Guess it's good I stick with prime.

Right, which was what I had thought initially in the prior thread. My thing is, if they are giving out false info now, and likely have for the last year, what else have the falsified? Just annoying I guess.
