Several ich based questions :)

Hey, i've almost gotten rid of the ICH in my tank, just 1 ich spot left on an endler now.
When that spot is gone, how long after that can I be sure that the ich is gone in the water and can stop treating with meds?
Am I right in saying if the meds kill what is released from that spot before they can reinfect more fish, then the tank is cured?
Like no more will come from the same spot some time later?
And I assume once it is gone it is ok to add another fish..?
I'd like to add a german blue ram soon if I can find one and if they have them at the shop saturday I could be quarantining it while im waiting for last spot to go.

And just while im asking, I've looked and can't find anywhere that says german rams would eat tetra or small fish, but are endlers too small?
They are well able to avoid my gourami, but then he doesn't chase them down or anything.

Ooh and also I think the meds are affecting my plants as my nitrates rose from just under 10 to almost 20 since i've been medicating, (though that could also be due to removing the carbon from filter,) but if that is the case, will the plants recover once I finish treating and do subsequent water changes or is there anything I can do to boost them?
I have rabbits so I could poke a few droppings into the roots for them... heard thats good for them..?

Cheers

Super quick anyways, was really suprised how fast though it wasn't a bad case to begin with, only like a couple of spots here and there.
The non quarantined fish who I suspect had the ich were added during the week while I was away, so didnt start treating till that weekend, which was 16th or 17th so just like 10 days or so with treatment of 1ml every 48hrs of king british ich medicine.
And that's half the dose so full dose would prob have knocked it right out

honestly there are a LOT more spots inside their gills than what you can see on the body from what i've read, but still, i've glad you were able to take care of it

becareful after using meds for ich to make sure you didnt kill the cycle...most meds will kill the beneficial bacteria and throw you into a mini cycle...id give it at least 2 weeks of clean and clear to add anymore fish..but finding out what caused the ich to begin with would help alot...
as far as your plants, do you mean put rabbit droppings in your fish tank Im hoping thats just a typo LOL ...either that or its something new ive learned once again!

Well the readings this weekend before water change were ammonia 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate in between 10 and 20. Hopefully it won't go into mini cycle just before im due to stop medicating.

I swear I read that somewhere recently, on a seemingly good website, can't for the life of me remember what it was. Apparently if you take the dry dropping (not the soft first-time-around one) and push it down between the roots it is good for the plants and doesn't harm the fish or water, but I still haven't done it because well..!
Thought i'd see if anyone else heard of it lol
God knows ive plenty to spare as plant fertiliser :P

Im fairly sure the ich was introduced when my sister got me 6 neons as a surprise and dropped them in without quarantine. I don't know whether ill keep them or not yet, they look odd, no neon stripe so im gettin paranoid about NTD but can't make out for sure whether they have it as they aren't lumpy and there are no white patches of tissue.

Nope, I am fairly sure they are neons, just odd lookin ones. They have a blue neon shine all around their eyes but the body stripe just isn't there. Checked the shop when I was getting ich med and all their neons were the same and labelled neons.
Must be an odd batch? I googled false neons etc but nothing came up that looks like them.
I'll try get a couple pics when im home on friday. Maybe people can advise me whether they see any signs of NTD as well. I know gaps in the stripe can be a sign but I thought that is due to the white tissue that forms, def no white tissue on these guys. And no stripe to have a gap in lol
Maybe they are some completely different fish but they look exactly like neons to me and they do have the neon colour around the eyes.

Hi, just had a look at some dwarf neon blue rainbowfish pics and they def aren't them.
They are perfectly tetra shaped, with the red stripe and all, just no neon.
I'll prob be able to upload a pic on friday.

Hmm I have to say its close, could be!
In that pic there is a slight stripe but the description says the blue stripe can be absent.
Only thing is the blue diamond on the head, they don't actually have so much blue on the head, its just the hard outer circle around the eye that is blue. But certainly seem close enough. I will try get nice clear pics of their heads

On a yay note, phoned home and the last ich spot has disappeared
so hopefully I can get a ram to begin quarantining this weekend.
Although I suspect I will be disappointed, i've never seen cichlids in the shop apart from the odd oscar or convict.
I think they might stock them here where I am in uni but it would be 4 hours in a bag altogether before I could get one back into the quarantine tank into nice warm water... is that too long in a bag?

Well it is proving impossible to get a focused picture of the tetra
But now that im home and looking at them im pretty sure that Amanda is right, they have more blue on the head than I remembered. If they ever stop moving long enough for the camera to focus i'll post some pics
