Ok then, if you dont like the advice you are gettin then just get the Tiger Barbs! And find out for yourself.....maybe they will be OK or not, take the chance.....it's your tank!

Oops, I see you are not gonna get them! Good idea!

it depends on who they are with...rummy's and barbs arent a threat as they are alot alike...its the fancy tailed fish like guppies, bettas, gouramis etc that get the barbs in a tizzie or at least with my experience with them ...I guess theres an exception to every rule tho!

Shawnie, your definitley right about the Gouramis, i moved my gouramis out of my community tank before adding the TG's otherwise they would just hide and stress out as i saw in one of my friends tanks - i should have mentioned that, my mistake.

I have 5 Rosy Barbs in with 3 Angelfish and a Dwarf Gourami and havin no probs with them. I read that they can also be possible fin-nippers too if not kept in a school. They keep to themselves and doin the pecking order thing. They are fun to watch! My 55 gal is overstocked but I have 2 HOB filters and keep up on w/c's gravel vac. So far so good!

Let's all remember to be polite and respectful of each other. This goes both ways.
If you have a question to ask, then keep an open mind about the answers you receive. If you're asking, that means that it is information that you are lacking. If people are answering (especially if a number of people are answering in the same manner), that likely means that they have experience/information that you lack.

Likewise, we can't make anyone take our advice. If someone asks a question but is choosing to ignore the advice given, we should strive to let it slide. In the end, the only person responsible for any given member's aquaria, and the lives and deaths of the fish in those aquaria, is the member in question. We can offer our best advice, and, in the end, that is all we can do.

Alyeskagirl - Of all the fish i have had over the years, both fresh and saltwater, i have never kept Angels, i have always seen them (web sites and threads) as very aggressive fish unless in tanks with other large fish - interesting.

Fishlover, i started out keeping fish at about 10 years of age and that was 40+ years ago. Every person, group i have been involved with has learned by trial and error. You now have someting i never had when starting out - web sites like this and wealth of information on the web. Just remeber as it has been said in this thread, people are trying to help each other, and what works for one person doesn't always work for another or even when i have set up two identical tanks - that is one of the most facinating aspects of this hobby/life. You can always keep learning.

It's not that we're trying to be harsh - it's just the facts that we are relaying to you.
It's your choice whether you follow them or not.

Fishlover, if people were seeming harsh, it's because you've asked for advice, and then basically said that their advice was wrong.

We believe that you are twelve.
We also believe that you (like all of us at one point or another) have a lot to learn. The first skill that a successful aquarist learns is patience. Patience to work with one aquarium at a time until you've got it fully fleshed out and stable. Patience to listen to others, bounce their information off of what you think is true, and adjust your beliefs based on this. Patience to research, research, research, and then, once you have a solid plan, act upon it.

My opinion on this matter is that you asked for advice and it was givin to you. You then can say thank you. What you choose to do with your tank is up to you and you use the advice givin and how you choose to follow it, well, that is up to you. Also, Fishlore members would not give you bad advice, they would not be here if they didnt know what they are doin, right?

And yes we do all make mistakes! We also learn from them.

I think I was I was 12 once (but I'm not sure because it was so long ago), and at 12 one tends to take a difference of opinion as an insult. As you get older, you grow to realize that people are just stating what they learned through their own personal experiance. Just because someone disagrees with you, doesn't mean they think you are stupid, it just means they have had experiances that different than yours.

My father told me a story a long time ago about some executive that had an assistant that was always disagreeing with him. When asked why he didn't fire a guy who was always disagreeing with him he said, "If he agreed with me on everything, I wouldn't need his opinion."

So just smile and know that everyone is really just trying to help you the best way that they know how.

Tigar Barbs are not a great fish to keep. They tend to nip at each other and other fish. I had some, and brought them back less then a week latter.
