betta question

should a male and female be seperated? ten gallon med planted. the male has been chasing the female around the tank for three days straight. i dont think he is biting her but i think her stress level would be high and i know thats when diseases can occur. could this be they mating?

It would be a good idea to get a divider and seperate them.
Breeding Bettas is a lot of time, hard work, money, conditioning and commitment.

They need to be seperated immediately ....You should never keep a male and female betta together unless you are breeding them....Your female will most likely end up dead from the stress if you do not remove her now.....

I'd suggest you do alot of research before attempting to breed.
Here's a link to get you started on that research:

if you would really like to try breeding, i would definitely say to start with guppies, platys, or mollies, they're livebearers and MUCH easier to breed than bettas. generally, if you have a male and female in the same tank, they'll breed no matter what you do

A male betta will continue work on his nest for a while, until you end up destroying it through a water change, or something like that. Then he'll most likely start another.
But, I too, would NOT recommend breeding bettas. You have to have a tank for each individual, and a home for each. And each spawn can have 100+ fry. That's A LOT of tanks.

breeding bettas is something most experienced fish keepers don't even try...if you REALLY want to breed, you should stick to livebearers for the time being like i said.

trying to breed bettas as a beginner will only lead to your female being extremely stressed and possibly dying.

i got a divider last night. as i was putting it together in the tank the female kept trying to get to the male and when she did the male would attack ME! it was like he was protecting her. it was kinda cute. now the female sits at the divider and keeps looking for a way to his side. is this normal?

very normal...leave them separated as if they were going to breed, it would have happened in the days they were together...reading the links people gave you is a great way to know how much money and time you need to breed them sucessfully ...great great job dividing them! can you get us pics? we love pics
