Congrats on the cycle! Its always a great feeling when we can finally add fish to a tank that has been through a cycle.
What kind of fish are you thinking of getting for your ten gal?

congrats! please though, make sure you research the fish you're getting before you buy them. it might be a good idea to go to the store, let your kids look around and pick a list of maybe five or so, go back home, do a little research on them (post here, of course!) and then go back. better to resist the impulse to buy right then (we've ALL been there) and be able to keep your fish for a long time to come ! good luck!

Congratulations on your cycled tank. I know just how agonizingly low the process can seem.

When you say that your children will be picking out the fish have you set guidelines? Children are likely to pick fish on visual preference and not on tank size and tank mate compatibility.

a good fish that your kids will probably like that would do well in a 10 gallon is a guppie, i have 3 of them in my 10 gallon and three corycats, they're fun to watch and the guppies are very colorful!

Lol, my first vote is almost always betta! but it really depends on the number of fish you want, and most people would probably prefer to put more than one fish in a 10 gallon.

I can't speak for "most people" but my personal taste would have to agree. If I had multiple tanks that I could keep a betta then yes they are very beautiful fish. But with only 1 tank I would lean towards a school. But then again that’s just my opinion.

Yeah, luckily for me I have MANY tanks

But that's generally why i suggest guppies and corycats, especially for kids, as they are so active and colorful!

Well I did do my home work and i gave the kids 2 choices...They were able to choose from cherry barbs or one type of tetra...we ended up with 6 neon tetras...Since monday one has passed on and i can only find 4 in the tank...I have looked all over for #5 but cant seem to find him...We put 3 mystery snails in the tank also...If #5 died would the snails be able to eat it fast enough that i would not be able to find remnants?Im going to take the one that passed on back to pet smart for the warranty but im holding off to see if i can find #5...Thanks
