im about to set up my tank

i got a 55 gallon tank and i want to get 2 oscars but i want a male and a female how can i tell them apart ? i went to petco and the people working in the fish dept. couldnt help me because they didnt know.

This is my 2 cents....puttin two in a 55 gal tank, well there isnt enough room for when they get to be full grown, 14 inches and they grow fast. Unless you plan on gettin a bigger tank later like a 110 gal to house two.

oscars are monomorphic which means males and fems look the same..unless they spawn you cant tell...and 2 in a 55 isnt enough room as alyeskagirl said but one would love it!

I'm sorry I can't help with your initial question. Our members have a wide range of knowledge, so I'm sure someone will be able to answer your question.

I couldn't help but notice your aquarium info. Thanks for filling that out. It helps the members help you ward off potential problems.
I notice you don't know about the nitrogen cycle. Petco workers usually don't mention that either. Here's a link explaining it:

Are you having problems with the tank? I notice a lot of supplements listed.

you could try other types of cichlids,but not oscars. 2 of them is too many
