welcome to fishlore!!
no any ammonia is deadly ... but you are in a mini cycle as you have a nitrate reading..so some daily water changes because you have fish and some prime conditioner , should finish it up

Welcome to FishLore,

As Shawnie mentioned any amount of ammonia is toxic for your fish. Have you just recently added the cichlid to a cycled tank? That would explain a mini cycle while the tank adjusts to the new fish.

However if you’ve had this tank for some time I might suggest feeding less. Often a slight ammonia increase is caused by decaying food in the sub strait. If you think this might be the case; decrease the amount you are feeding and/or increase gravel vacuuming.

if you want to save the fish , daily is needed until you have 0 for ammonia and nitrites and under 20 nitrates...prime or stress coat plus + for conditioner will help detox the ammonia and nitrites for 24 hours until your next water change

If you have ammonia that means your tank isn't cycled.
What are the readings for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates?
What size tsnk?

I have Serpaes, an Oto, a few ghost shrimp, a betta, 2 ADF's and a bunch of tadpoles.
Not all in the same tank.
If I ever get my 30g up, I hope to have an Angel, they're such pretty fish and maybe some cardinals.

If you look under the green boxes on the left, where is says Aquarium Information, you can see what tanks and fish people have.

When you get a chance, it would help members if you added yours. Here's how:

Cardinal Tetra, they look similar to neon tetras but are twice as bright and colorful. (same colors just brighter and more of it. see how the red covers the whole body).

A little bigger too. It's my understanding and Angel probably won't eat a cardinal but can eat a neon.
Here's some info about them along with a pic:
