What do you know about this cichlid

There is someone listing these cichlids for sale on craigslist. She had fry and wants to get rid of them. This says they will do ok in a 15..I have a 16 gallon long empty. Bad idea??..They are very pretty. Here is the link about the fish I'm looking at

I haven't kept them myself, but I almost got a pair once (turns out the female had died unexpectely before I picked em up). I have heard if it's a good, matched pair you can keep them in a smallish tank (i.e. 15-20 gals) without a problem. Where you run into issues is with poor pairing, where one is likely to kill the other. I doubt you can keep a group together in that size of tank (other than parent/juveniles), but you could probably get a group of fry, allow them to grow and pair, and keep a strong pair and sell the rest. They have really neat breeding behaviour, where juvies will often help rear younger sibs.
Someone else who has firsthand experience might have better advice though!

Nice and interesting fish. A schooling African Cichlid with a complex social structure. If I were in your position I would go with the 16 and get ready to upgrade down the road (a bit more MTS won't harm no one as far as I know)

That tank should be fine for them, and maybe go to a 20l later. They are a beautiful cichild.
