Does anybody can help me with this diagnosis??

Hi guys,

I have a mollie and latelly shes been having problems that I don't know how to identify the correct diagnosis...I was wondering if anyone could help me...

If you look at the pictures attached on this email, you will see that she has a white thing on her fins...it's like a discoloration that occurred and I don't know how to fix it...

Besides she lost her oranje collor in many parts of her upper body....the pictures also show all the white spots on her that she didnt have before...

If you look closelly on the side of her head, there are really shinny gold parts, which doesn't seem normal also...it's like she is opaque in many parts, and others she is really shinny and I remember her being really pretty and all oranje when I bought her...

She eats really well, and my tank is cycled...

I hope someone can help me or maybe could pass those pictures forward to someone who could help...
Thanks,
Melissa

Hi guys,

I have a mollie and latelly shes been having problems that I don't know how to identify the correct diagnosis...I was wondering if anyone could help me...

If you look at the pictures attached on this email, you will see that she has a white thing on her fins...it's like a white streak, a discoloration that occurred and I don't know how to fix it...(it's NOT cotton like, NOT fuzzy...it's just the collor of the fin is turning white and helds it close to her body)

Besides she lost her oranje collor in many parts of her upper body....the pictures also show all the white spots on her that she didnt have before...She develped more black spots also, which are probably due to her having passed through the cycling process and I know that some fish that recover from ammonia poisoning from the cycling develop those dark spots on the body) I cant' figure it out is why is she becoming white on many parts of her body...

If you look closelly on the side of her head, there are really shinny gold parts, which doesn't seem normal also...it's like she is opaque in many parts, and others she is really shinny and I remember her being really pretty and all oranje when I bought her...

She eats really well, and my tank is cycled...

Another thing...she usually puts her belly right on the heater...she has been doing this since her anal fin became whitish...It seems like she wants to burn whatever is bugging her...

I hope someone can help me or maybe could pass those pictures forward to someone who could help...

20 gallon tank
1 adult oranje mollie
2 of her babies ( they are 2 month old)
I have plants also
Temperature 80
pH 68 ( I have a problem with the ph, it always goes down on me)
Amonia 0.25
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
I have my aquarium for 2 month and 2 days now and it is almost completelly cycled now

I've been changing my water every 2 days because I have a little ammonia- 25% change, being carefull not to disturb the good bacteria that is already there...

I use 1 tablespoon of sea salt per every 5 gallons
I conditione my water with prime
Also I set the water in the exactly same temperature before adding to my aquarium

Please look at the photos...pay close attention to her anal fin

Thanks so much,
Melissa

Looks like she is developing a new coloration is all. Most Mollies arent pure one color. Its likely she has some silver molly in her history. One of my females hangs out around the heater and does the same thing, must just feel good or something. The good water and regular feedings will bring out a fish's true coloration. Her fins look fine and if shes eating and active otherwise I wouldnt worry at all.

There are a few troubling points with the aquarium info.
First of all, .25 ammonia is bad. Not horrible, but the presence of ammonia means that your tank is not processing the ammonia properly, which means that there has been some severe setback in the cycle.
The fact that there's no nitrate actually is bothersome, as well. In a cycled tank, there will be zero ammonia, zero nitrites, and some amount of nitrates. Even my moderately-planted, understocked tank has around 10ppm nitrates.
The temp seems kind of high, too. Not terrible, but a touch.
That you're having pH drops when you're using salt is weird, too.

My suggestion; see if you can find Vitachem, GarlicGuard, and PimaFix. The first two are nutritional additives, the third is a generic antiseptic that might help whatever's going on.

welcome to fishlore!!
I agree with everyone! it could be color changes or it could be affects of ammonia poisioning...your tank will be cycled when you have 0 ammonia and nitrites and under 20 nitrates so you arent there yet...daily water changes with some prime will help the fishies tolerate the ammonia...goodluck!

I don't think your molly is really sick. It is very common for fish to change ccolour when you bring them home. They are not their petential colour in the shops because of all the stress and bad conditions.

Though there might be some trouble to come -until your tank is fully cycled...
Keep added Prime evryday and do 50% water changes until the levels get better.
Good luck!
