Wood

I am thinking of getting a bn pleco when I am finally cycled (it wont be the first fish though).

I have read that they should have wood in the tank to help digestion.

Is this really needed as I dont really want the water to go brown.

its driftwood, and it wont really turn your water brown, you need things like caves, pipes, hiding places, driftwood is not required although they like it.

Welcome

g'morning.. or rather where you are, g'afternoon lol..
Pleco's love driftwood. You can buy driftwood that is ready for the tank without it turning the water brown. But you will have to do your research on that. I found one seller on ebay a year or so ago that I bought driftwood from and in his info he stated that he treated all his wood first. It never turned my water brown. Other driftwood that I collected from my local beach, I would soak for weeks inbetween changing out the water in the bucket adding it to the tank once the water was clear of any brown.

I have 3 BN plecos and so far one claimed her driftwood right out of the bag. The other 2 seem to like the glass more and the other driftwood is still vacant. It will really help there digestive track so yeah I would get some cured driftwood if you can find it.
