Urgent Help Needed!!!

about 5 days ago i got some guppies for my 55g tank and one of the females was pregnant. thismourning she looked thinner but i had to go to school. today when i got home i relized there was fry in the tank! i was only able to find and save 4 i think the others were eaten but i need help taking care of the ones i saved. right know i have a small container full of water from my tank with them in it, to keep the water warm i placed the container on a small foot warmer. what should i feed them? what temp should their water be at? does their tank need a filter? and what else should i know to properly take care of them untill i can get them a home?

thanks for your help.

You can get a breeding net, they are only a few bucks and you just keep them in the tank. The fry can be fed fine grained flake food

id buy a breeder box and hang it on the side of your tank...they are pretty cheap...the fry need a filter and heat to survive and crushed up fish flakes will work for them for now...omega one is great for flake food....

The fry need to be in a cycled, filtered tank just like the adults. You would probably be good to go if you just got a breeder box (or breeder net) and kept the fry in the 55 inside the breeder box (net) until they get big enough to be released with the other adults in the tank. At 55 gal you have lots of nice room for plenty of pretty guppies. Remember to keep up your water changes...I see your information says the tank is 8 days old. Did you cycle it previously before you added your guppies?

Edit: Ninja'd...geez I type slow, hunt and peck method ain't working for me!

hi! congrats on your babies!

Until you can by a proper breeding net to float the babies in your big tank put them in a plastic container and float them in the 55g. This will keep the babies at a stable temperature. Replace a little of the water every few hours and syphon up any uneaten food/poo with a air hose.

They are not fussy eaters and you can feed them very finely crushed up flakes.

Why did you mix female and male guppies when you didnt have a home for the babies?

Don't worry so much about this lot as you wil have plenty more to come!

i think ill put them in the net that came with my tank in the water.i got males and females because the males were so pretty and i was afraid the males would fight if i had no females. and im afraid and ashamed to say that i fell for a lie when the people at petco told me my tank was cycled (curse them) but im doing all that i can to keep my fish alive and they seem to be doing great. any more advice is greatly appreciated.

thanks for the help.

the net wont work without them escaping and getting eaten do you think they can survive the night in the container and should i be expecting more fry from the female?
