Something growing in my tank. . . .

yeah, so I noticed this . . . stuff. . . growing in my tank yesterday, and I am at a total loss as to what it is. At first I thought maybe a fishie had scraped off part of his slime coat or something, but realized that if that much of a fish was damaged he'd be dead. Then I though maybe it was a worm or something, but it doesn't look quite alive enough for that. It's bigger this morning. the photo is on high zoom. in reality, the stuff is less than an inch long. Any ideas?

Looks like a kind of algae, I've seen this before. Can you remove it?

If it gets out of hand its an eye sore. I don't think the fish really mind it and for some it is a source of food. But I think that is more the green variety.
I think I'd try and vacuum it up when you do a water change.

It looks like the skin left over from a frog shedding. lol
You might be able to just suck it out with a never seen soap turkey baster if you're not ready for a complete vacuum.

I have that in my tank growing on the heater plastic. I asked about it at my LFS and it is just congealed minerals from the water. I've since put dwarf gouramis in and they eat it! So totally harmless I'd say.

What sort of fish do you have in your tank, if you get a algaeeater they would prolly eat it...
