I read that certain species should be kept in groups of at least 6...so I have bought the suggested numbers for the fish I have thus far and to be honest they tend to be all over the tank largely ignoring each other.

So in your opinion how important is it to keep say neons in say numbers of 6 or more compared to say 3 or 4?

neon tetras? i find it strange that they ignore each other, i've had a few that I was keeping in QT for a friend that she had just bought and they stayed together ALL the time. but yes, I would still recommend six. But then again, it depends on how large your tank is, three or four might be okay in a relatively small tank but if you have the space i'd say just keep the six.

I dont have any neons yet, I do have black skirts and serpaes and they pay no attention to one another for the most part.
