And then there was 6

Well it looks as though Fishlips and I will be waiting a whole lot longer to see fish in our tank. The school of neons certainly appear to have NTD. Although there is no physical signs of NTD the neons are displaying the social behavior of NTD, that and the fact we have been loosing one or two a day are pretty good indications of NTD. So we are down to six and it looks as though we will only have 4 in the next 12 to 24 hours.

As there is no known cure or treatment for NTD there is little more we can do but sit back and wait for the rest of them to die off, sanitize the q-tank and start all over AGAIN.

Makes me wish we had taken up gardening instead.

We of course will not be making any further fish purchases from Big Al’s. Since getting the neons we’ve been back a few times to check out different fish. We’ve been less then impressed by the condition of the fish we’ve seen at our Big Al’s. Our only other option is PetSmart which isn’t exactly reassuring but that’s our only two options. The fish at PetSmart do seem far more healthy then those at our Big Al’s.

No question here… Just thought I’d update you on our progress which certainly seems stuck in reverse.

I'm really sorry about your neons. They're such pretty little fish but not as hardy as they once were.

Dozey, would you mind describing NTD and the behaviors associated with it? Thanks!

My neon school also went through a battle of NTD. I had seven and over a period of a week they just dropped one by one. There are two survivors who are still alive, but I don't think there is a cure for it. But I could be wrong. It really sucks to see fish go like that.

Here's a link that gives the details...
http://badmanstropicalfish.com/fish_...ation.html#NTD

Unfortunately there is not many details about NTD. But my experience has been; the fish seem extremely healthy and active and very suddenly one breaks off from the school. This followed by the fish either going to the bottom or the top of the tank. In the next stage the fish’s breathing becomes rapid and in the case of the fish that goes to the surface they begin to breathe surface air. This process seems to take 12 to 24 hours from when I first notice a fish off by himself.

There’s no known treatments so there’s little more to do but treat them well for the little they have left.

Thanks, Dozey- I don't see any signs of that, yet. Good Luck!

I didn't know it at the time, but my school of neons went the same way. Sorry about your little guys!
