What are some good combos for a 5 gallon tank?

I have a heated, freshwater tank and I am planning on getting a neon glofish tommorow. Any suggestions on what other fishes will get along well with them? I know I don't want to overstock but if I change the water once per week how many inches of fish do you think I could fit in?

So...

#1- What fishes for my 5 gallon tank (hopefully including a neon glofish)

and #2- How many inches can i fit if I clean it very regularly?

Thanks so much

Welcome to fishlore!!..
I love glofish..But they are a schooling fish and do best with at least 5 of them..They get to be 2 inches so really they wouldn't do to well in a 5 gallon..What about a betta??

Everyone here will recommend a betta. There are plenty of other fish like guppies dwarf gouramis, otos that would also be good, make sure your tank is well cycled though.

I agree. To avoid some problems, it would be wise to cycle your tank before getting fish.
Here's a link explaining the Nitrogen Cycle

Good luck

I think a couple of guppies would be ok..But I would not put a dwarf Gourami in a 5 gallon..Ottos would not be good in a 5 gallon either. They like to be in schools of 3 or more and get up to 2 inches each. Gilbert is right, make sure your tank is cycled.

i would start out with a betta. but you are not gonna be able to have many more fish i would consider a 10 gallon or even 20. you can get goldfish very cheap. i would get like 2 or 3 but then i think your tank would be full.

Goldfish aren't suitable for 5g's. They produce too much waste for that size tank.
