Veggies For Food

I Have A Pleco. He Eats Tetra Extreme Veggie Wafers. Can I Feed Him Some Zucchinni Slices. Will The Zucchhinni Pollute My Water If Left Overnight Because He Is Nocturnal? I Would Drop It In About 9am and take it out at about 6am or 7am.

Im not sure about Zucchinni but My pleco LOVES Cucumber, i have left it in over night accidently once and nothing bad happened. Nothing happened at all really except a huge hole in the middle of the cucumber where he had been eating.

Zucchini, cucumber and romaine lettuce are all good. I use a vegetable clip and do the same, place in tank at night and remove in the morning.

I use all the veggies as stated above put them in at night take any uneaten out the next day unless you want to condition them to come out during the day, {my guppies love this stuff too}. I also feed my plecos the large red worms from my garden they will grab onto them and carry them around sucking away, my plecos come out all day long, I conditioned for this by only putting food out during the day and removing at night, took about 3 weeks, its fun to watch them, I call mine "poop factories"

Is the pleco in your 20g? If so, he may be contributing to your ammonia problem. Plecos grow quite large and need at least 55 gallons.

If he is already in a larger tank, I don't think leaving zuchinni in overnight will have too big of an effect on your ammonia, and your pleco will surely appreciate the treat

I give my fish vegetables all the time. What they have not eaten after 12 hours gets taken out but it rarely lasts that long.

I feed a mixture of: cucumbers, zuchinni, spinach, collard greens, broccoli, water melon, pumpkin. (only thing with the sweeter things, will make a difference to your cycle as the bacteria love the sweetness, i would leave these in for less maybe 6 hours)

All uneaten food should be removed regularly whether its flake food or vegetables.

I've never had any adverse effects from leaving vegetables in my tank over night. What type of pleco do you have? Is he in a 20 gallon tank?

Most plecos will grow to be 12” to 18”. There are exceptions such as my clown pleco who will grow to about 5”.

What adverse effects occur if you leave vegetable matter in until it is all eaten? I have dropped zucchini in before and left it in until it was just pieces of rind remaining.

If the vegetable mater begins to decay it will produce ammonia. If its left to long it will start to break up making it imposible to remove and therefor will end up decaying.
