It seems like more than I would expect after three weeks of fishless cycling unless...you are cycling with fishfood or your tank is getting a lot of direct sunlight.

That algae is diatoms, its very very common in new tanks, thankfully its very easy to scrub off
Yup its normal, more than most tanks, but normal if your keeping the light on alot
Looks good, good luck with the new tank

You dont need to keep the light on all the time though... when youre cycling you dont need to keep it on at all, and when you have fish in there you only need it on about 8 hours.

I get algae like that once in a while. I just use my mag-float to scrub it off. Even a paper towel will do. I have my lights on anywhere from 12-14 hours a day but I have a fully planted and stocked tank.

No worries that's normal!

I would scrape down the sides. Just to stay on top of the algae or its going to get out of control. I do my tanks about once a week. But a [secret : )] I have a team of algae eaters called Siamensis. They've been working for me for about 10 days and they eat the dark beard algae, this stuff is very tenacious and hard to get rid of once it latches on. So these guys chomp away at it like they're mowing the lawn. : ) Of course you can't put a clean up crew in til' your cycled.
But so far so good!
