The purifier would help. I would do this-have your purified water tested and they can tell you if it's now ok for your fish. Or maybe they will recommend adding something like Prime to your fish water. Don't think purified water affects cycling, know bottled, pure water for me didn't speed my cycle up.

remember that you ass conditioners to the water to remove trace metals as well as chlorine and chloramines.

for all it costs, I can't see why you wouldn't use a liquid purifier / conditioner.

I believe that copper pipes form an oxidation on the inside from being in contact with water. This oxidation stops any copper from leaching into the water.

The biggest risl you run into with copper pipes in your home is from lead. Lead solder was used in most houses to seal and secure the copper pipes. The copper pipes themselves pose little risk, since they're not made of pure copper, but a copper alloy mix of copper, nickel and some other hard metals. The lead solder is the biggest problem and water conditioners do not remove or neutralise lead. A good filter will remove it from the water,so it's not a bad idea.I would also treat the water with a conditioner as well.
