Hey all, I'm thinking of swapping my 29 gallon for a 75 gallon and getting a Jack Dempsey (after tank cycled). Should I get a male and female? What other cichlids would be good tankmates for the Jack Dempsey? The infamous Oscars? Thanks for the help!!

You can have two of them, preferably a pair. So with a 75g tank you can go with two JD's and one oscar. Convict cichlids do fine with them. I have not tried other fish with my two, so I cant really say. Shawnie, another member here has her Jds with oscars and I believe, pictus catfish. They take quite awhile to grow to their full 7-8 inch adult size.
