What do you put in a tank that big??

Well, I got my big nice tank that I wanted, now what do I put in there?? It's a 125 gallon..I don't like BIG fish like Oscars or anything that HAS to eat live food. I feed my other fish frozen food and that's ok but live...UGHH..I guess if I found a fish I really liked I would feed them live but iffy. I also don't like big algae eaters like Plecos..No offense..I'm just not fond of BIG dudes. I do like the smaller plecos though. My husband really likes colorful fish..I'm really looking at Cichlids...I have high pH..it's 7.6 or 8.0 out of my tap..I've brought it down using driftwood in my other tanks to like 7.2 or so. I also don't know if were going for the sleek look with slate and dark gravel or for the natural look of brown natural gravel and planted. Throw some idea out there we are open for anything..

CHoffman:

In a nice big tank like that, and your actual water pH range, you could keep good-sized schools of Rainbowfish (e.g. Glossolepis Incisus, M. Lacustris) which are peaceful and tolerate other species easily. They are slow growing fish that may not look particularly beautiful at the LFS, but invest some time and it will pay off for you. Then you'll see who has the most colorful fishies LOL!

On the other hand, your pH is great for African Cichlids. There's a lot you can do there with so many different species -it is amazing the variety of African Cichlids. Some are aggressive but there are some peaceful ones too, some are mostly veggie eaters, some are territorial, but there are several tried and true combinations out there.

SteveAngela1 is someone who could give you a helpful hand if you go into Africans. Of course other fishlorians out there will help you as well.

Info on the following page is intended for cichlid stocking options in a 75gal tank but I figure it could be a starting point for you:

I agree with Pepe, I would put a couple of nice schools of Rainbows in there. I have 3 Boseman's Rainbows in my tank and they are colorful, peaceful fish. There are also alot of other verieties of Rainbowfish out there also that are beautiful and require large tanks.

I have some photos of my Bosemans in my photo album if you want to take a look at them.

I agree with Pepe...rainbows would look wonderful, but so would the cichlids. Personally, I'd probably go for the rainbows because I enjoy a more peaceful aquarium and you don't see them as often as you do cichlids. There are so many amazing color varieties, from purple and orange to all varieties of red. Of course, you have the color with the cichlids as well. I'm not an expert on either, but good luck with whatever you choose. I'd love to have an aquarium that big (and I'm sure eventually I will)!
