Full hood cutouts ?

How do you cut out sections to make room for filter or heater ?
If you change filters and new one is smaller how do you fill gap ?
TIA

All my hoods had perferated areas that could be cut out with a utility knife. I don't have any advice on filling the gap.

I use another piece of plastic. Recently I began using plastic knitting grids, easy to cut with a regular scissor, to cover open spaces. Some fish are more prone to jump out of the tank than others, among those I recall the Marble Hatched and the Rainbow Shark. I have a 30Lx18W tank with a 30Lx12W hood, I placed a custom-cut piece of transparent glass at the rear end.

If you have one of the plastic 'flap' type, frequently used on all glass, hinged lid types, you can buy a replacement plastic piece and just swap it out.
Your LFS may have them or may order them and you can also get them online, though shipping may make it an expensive item.

I save all the plastic 'cut-outs' that come off the hood. If needed, you can always cut a piece of that plastic, and using a pen-torch, melt the 2 pieces of plastic back together. After a while you get good at it,and can hardly notice a difference from where it was originally cut out.

For the less handy with that type of modification, pepetj has a good idea. Use the plastic canvas and a little silicone and you can cover any size gap up to an entire hood made from plastic canvas (like I did for my daughter's 'crabitat')
