Trouble Establishing Bacteria

Hello everyone. So as I have posted on some other threads here, I was treating my 10 gal. divided with TriSulfa for my betta's fin rot. As a result, I'm now going through another cycle right now. I have been doing water changes every other day to keep the ammonia levels down. And after a couple weeks, I still don't have enough bacteria in my tank. I don't know what it is. Could it be that I have been removing too much waste and that there is nothing for the bacteria to feed on? I put in some filter media from another tank in there yesterday, so hopefully that will help. It's not like I don't feed my fish. Any ideas? All replies appreciated.

Oh, and the ammonia levels aren't that high. Only .25 - .5, but that's still not good enough.

That's why cycling with fish takes so long because you're removing the ammonia the bacteria needs, but you do it for the health of your fish.
(I know you're re-establishing your cycle, not purposely cycling with fish.)
Adding the used filter media should speed things up.

The antibiotic may have totally killed off your benificial bacteria, so you may be starting from scratch again. Putting the seeded media in should speed things up for you.

by Lucy...again. When my mom warned me about fast women, I thought she was talking about something totally different!

Thanks. I just didn't know if it took this long in a ten gallon.
