PH balancer????

Hi,

today i went into my local pet store to see what they had i am a complete beginer and have not yet got any fish or tanks, it is a massive national chain of stores called pets at home, i went in and they had lots of prouducts, one of these was a pH balancer. It said that it puts your PH at 7.5 and i just wanted to check if this would actually work because i dont want it posioning my fish (when i eventually get them).

Any ideas

Most fish will acclimate to what ever the Ph of your water out of the tap happens to be. If you are buying them locally chances are the fish stores water is the same or close to yours Adding a bunch of chemicals to the tank is never a good idea. good for you for checking first

Welcome to fishlore fishie freddie

This forum is a great resource for information and new friends to old and new hobbyists alike.Glad to see you doing your homework and asking questions before making any purchases.

PH is a touchy issue. I would such for a beginner NOT to use chemicals to alter or stabilise PH. Fish adapt to PH ranges fairly well. The PH from your tap is usually good,It's where your water for top-ups or water changes come from.So don't alter it.Leave it as-is and the fish will become accustomed to it.

Way to go Freddie! welcome to Fishlore, make yourself at home.

Planning ahead, reading around, asking questions, considering conflicting information, making your mind up... all that before buying fish is something to enjoy. As SoF'74 expressed already, I'm also glad that you are up to responsible fishkeeping. I don't recommend tampering with pH unless you are sure you know what you're up to.
