What's the difference

Ok..Got some meds for the fungus on the Dwarf Gourami's fin...I had my sister pick up both kinds at a petstore..This is all they had...Fungus Guard by jungle..Active ingredients are copper sulfate, potassium dichromate....
Fungus Eliminator by jungle..Active Ingredients ..sodium chloride, nitrofurazone, furazolidone, potassium dichromate..

What is the difference..What should I use..The fungus Eliminator claims to cure a wide variety of things including mouth and fin rot, dropsy, swim bladder disease..Is this right??

From what i read Fungus Guard is more a preventive medicine although i maybe wrong check this link out until someone with more knowledge provides you with the answers you are after.

The one is for a wider variety of diseases so it has more in it. some you may not even need. But on the other hand I personally would be afraid to use anything with Copper in it on the otos
I haven't used meds in the tanks in a number of years (knock on wood) but when i did I used Mardel products. I used the maracyns when a female black lace angel got a fin fungus after her mate chewed her up. Maracyn and MaracynII to be specific. Both gave good performance and have a good reputation.

whats wrong with mr gourami? did I miss something? I hope he is ok!!! if its just his fins, I wouldnt medicate and just try the stress coat+ with water changes...

Im not familiar with any meds as ive been fortunate as carol has and not ever needed any... but just remember that gourami's are just like betta's as far as their labyrinth organs and dont do well with alot of meds....

I can't comment on the difference between the two but I used Fungus Eliminator on my serpae for a mild case of mouth fungus and was very pleased with it.

I always seem to pick the ones that are sick...when I brought him home I noticed some spots on his dorsal fin but thought it might just be a airbubble. His dorsal fin was very short too, like it had been nipped or torn. The "airbubble" wasn't that at all..It just got worse and it looks like little white balls on the tips of his dorsal fin. I"ve been doing daily 25% water changes with stress coat and it doesn't seem to help. The other Gourmai is very healthy. Thank goodness.

I decided to use the fungus Eliminator..Thanks Lucy..Is there a way not to use meds when your fish have fungus, or finrot??..I'm not a big fan of meds myself and would much rather just try to heal them with some TLC but I don't yet know what is med worthy and what isn't??

How long does it take to "eliminate" it??

when one of my betta boys had major fin rot from jumping out of his bowl on tank cleaning day, the meds i mentioned healed him..but with most cases of fin issues, it takes a few weeks and doesnt happen over night again if its something that needs meds, by all means..but as you , im not a fan of them and usually try to heal without...goodluck either way !

I'd say it was a few days, but it was a very mild case. I caught it early.

I knew something wasn't right because the day before the fungus showed he was hiding, which was very unusual.
