Poor Peel-A-Boo I just had to share this with everyone ,as you know he had anchor-worms, so in treatment i have been putting him clean water every day to protect him and i use a measuring cup to scoop him with, Well this morning as i spoke to him he just swam into the cup and not only that ,in his fresh water he swam out.I guess he knows the routine by now. Who ever said they are just fish lol-they are very smart'' just'' fish. Have a good all. bella

Goldies are very smart fish. It's good he knows the routine. Less stress for you both when trying to catch him.

Well,Peek-A-Boo, now has a buddy the Oranda that is black and gold and a perfect little heart on his head lol[wen] with a little line going to his mouth, they are not together yet until the big tank is finished cycling but i will name the other fish soon. As, Peek, has been very lonesome since the other one passed[anchor worms] so he will be a happy camper to have a buddy again. bella

goldfish are smart, they learn to trust you and then you cooperate with what they want. Peek a boo knew that you were going to bring him home and care for him, and he understood that when you moved him it was for his own good, smart fishie! they are so intelligent. -fishlover78

thanks bella, I can't wait till I get mine! I have decided I want a red cap oranda, a black moor and I am considering a celestial bubble eye, except I am weary about the eyes getting popped.

I have read that you should keep the celestial with other fancy that have the popped out eyes only. Something to do with the fact that their eyesight is not as good as other goldfish (even other fancy such as the oranda) so they have a hard time competing for the food in the tank. The oranda and the black moor should be fine together as they have the same/similar body type. The basic rule of thumb for tankmates for goldies is similar body types. |

well, if I choose not to get the bubble eye for obvious reasons I think I'd like a pearscale or a fancy calico. they would work right (sorry for the hi jacking bella!)?

FL; i agree with Gemlin lol , i would stay away from the big eyes, as i think they are too much for a first time owner to deal with lol and i'm finding out Goldies are not that easy to deal with. got to go lol bella

Goldies are fine, and fairly simple, as long as you consider their needs. Figure 3-4 times the water you would for the same size tropical, stay away from the ones that have been bred to extremes (bubble eye, celestial, telescope). For first time goldfish owners, I would stay with either the comet or shubunkins as they are the easiest to start with, or with some of the more common fancies such as the fantail, pearlscale, black moor, oranda, ryukin, or veiltail.
