| how many goldies? Hi everyone, I have a 30 gallon hex tank that I would like to stock with fancy goldies, or marble angels. how many goldfish can I put in there? I was thinking 3. I want to have 2 red cap orandas, a calico or black moor and I really want a crayfish (they're kind of aggressive though) so how many can I have and can I have the crayfish? please respond, your input would be greatly appreciated! -fishlover78 |

| Crayfish are pretty vicious. I wouldn't recommend putting them in with anything. I think the general rule for stocking goldfish is 20 gallons for the first one, and 10 additional gallons for each other goldie. So two, according to that. But I don't know anything about them, so you'll want to wait for someone more experienced to help you out. |

| Yeah, pretty much. They attack and kill your fish at night, when they're all asleep. I've heard stories of people who keep them in community tanks successfully, but you have to feed them a very wide sort of complicated variety of foods to distract them from your fish. I'm not sure if the 2 gallon you have is big enough for them, but I wouldn't put a fiddler crab in because they need sort of fancy set ups. Try reading the crayfish profile on this site, it has a lot of good information on it! |

| Oh, I knew that. I just read in your info that you had a 2 gallon, and I was recomending if you really wanted a crayfish, you might be able to put it in there. If its alright with your sister that is |

| Yep, I saw that you resolved the no crayfish with fish in your 30. Just letting MeGustaUnaPez926 it wasn't a good recommendation.
A couple of goldfish would fit fine in 30g. I'm not real sure what the footprint for a 30 hex is or if it's enough swim room for a goldie.
They're so full of personality, too bad they have such a big bio-load. |

| Your hex tank is really only big enough for one young goldfish, and it would need to be moved to a larger tank as it grows. 18" isn't really enough swim room for most goldfish. You might be able to use it for 2 or 3 fancy goldfish for no more than 1 year depending on how small they were when you got them, but they would definitely need to be moved to a larger tank at the end of that time. |

| Lucy, I wasnt really trying to suggest that he should put the crayfish in the 2 gallon, just that it wasnt a good idea to but him in with goldfish. Sorry, I guess I wasnt very clear. |
