Water change and declor?

When doing a water change is it ok to put tap water directly into the tank than put the declor in the tank or is it better to treat the water before you put it in the tank? Or is either way ok?

thank you(s)

Hi Jay to do or not to do.. depends on your equipment you are using for the water change. If you are using a Python that hooks up to your faucet, then you really have to put it into the tank directly OR take some water in a bucket add the dechlor to that bucket then add to the tank.
If you are using buckets, as I do, I put the Prime measured out in each five gallons that I add to the tank. Its just as easy to do it this way as it is to add directly to the tank. Personally I like to see it get diluted in the water bucket first.

I've read it's ok to do it either way because dechlorinators work almost instantly.

Since I'm paranoid, I add it to the fresh water before adding it to the tank.

I had forgotten to add it to the fresh water once so I added it directly to the tank right away. My fish didn't show any adverse effects.

I add my water treatment before adding the fresh water to the tank. Other who are fortunate enough to have a python add the conditioner to the water stream as they are filling the tank.

Like Bella, I would add the conditioner to the tank just before putting the water in. (But then again I don't have a python)
