Weekly Meds

Hello All,

Has anybody herd of meds that you put in your tank weekly regardless of having ill fish. this is suppose to kill off the bad bacteria.

A friend of mine has a med well fluid that you put in your tank and its suppose to make your water blue and keep your fish healthy he dose this on a weekly basis.

if this is true i would like too know a little more about these types of meds as i would like to keep my tank in prestige form.

I would advise against it.Medicating for no reason,is never a good idea.Kind of like you taking medicines for no reason, and could have adverse consequences. I only medicate when NECESSARY,after natural remedies have failed.

Im not sure if its an actual med, although what it dose do is kill off bad bacteria and make your water look blue.

lately ive had some fungus issues and it just seemed like a good idea.

It sounds like Methylene Blue. Sometimes you see blue water in the betta cups. It's there to relax the fish and try and ward off fungus.
However, I can't imagine fish living in it 100% of their lives.
I agree with SOF, why medicate if there's nothing wrong.
What kind of fungus issues are you having

Mike19-just imo- i agree with SOF it is not good to use for heathy fish as it could hurt them, as far as i know they are the only ones [lfs] to use it. hope this help's you. bella

I'd be worried it would also kill off the good bacteria.

A healthy, well maintained tank should look after itself. I would also be concerned that by adding some kind of meds every week could mask other problems.

Mike i also beleive in garlic-gard and vita-chem if you can get it. it kind of protects your fish's immune system i use it for my betta's and my goldie's and they love it. I just put 2-drops of garlic-gard in once a week and it beats medicating a healthy fish- There is also Indian Leafs that are suppose to be great for your fish health-but i have not tried it as yet but i'm going to purchase some as it is natural and i believe in natural and if all else fails then meds bella
