I'm excited to see what they have..Of course I'll have my kiddos with me..I'll be chasing them around 99% of the time..I'll have to just glance at tanks as I'm running by..lol...Actually they do pretty good in there..but it's still hard to look like I want.
I'm sure I'll see some fish in there that I"ll what to know about..I won't be able to take he LFS advice..I wish I had a laptop or something so I could get on here and you guys could fill me in..

I used to feel for so many members that have to drive so many hours to visit a LFS as I have three of them within five minutes of my house. But thinking about it I guess I’m no better off. My 3 LFS’s are Wal-Mart, PetSmart and Big Al’s.

I see that the LFS you will be visiting sponsors the Wichita Aquarium Club. I’m pretty sure that my LFS’s sponsor the local Puppy Mill Society. I’d drive an hour to visit a decent LFS. I guess the days of the Ma & Pa LFS is gone in my area.

I would love to have a Petsmart in my town..We have a walmart but it doesn't sell fish and a tiny little part of the pet section is tanks, food, decor..Hardly any meds at all. This place is about 2 hours from me but It will be fun seeing it anyway. It is nice to see there are still non chain store LFS around here..maybe you should put one in Dozey..=-)..Get out of the car business and into the fish business..

I will agree that when it comes to food, test kits, filters and heaters things are far easier for me. But after reading Bella’s horror stories I’m concerned about having to rely on these stores to stock my seriously under-stocked aquarium.

With only a RTS and a clown pleco, who do come out to feed but prefer to spend their time in their caves the biggest attraction in my tank right now is my pantyhose. I’m seriously concerned about purchasing my fish from these stores.

Pantyhose are entertaining..lol...I do know what you mean..that's a tough call...Bella had problems with Big Al's right??...I would go with Petsmart..But I don't know how your Petsmart is...Our's isn't great..but it's not terriable either..Have you decided what you want to go with your RTS and pleco?

Yes... Bella's problems have been with Big Al's. And I don't feel any better about the over-stocked tanks at our local PetSmart. Our PetSmart is staffed primarily by teenagers who are more concerned about Friday night’s party then learning anything about fish keeping or their jobs.

I wish we knew what to start stocking with. FishLips (my wife) did post a thread in the “Socking Aquarium” forum but we have had almost no input on this thread. I had hoped to get one or two more RTS’s, but my research indicates that one is a better choice. They are so cute. So if you have any suggestions our ears are open.

[VERY IMPORTANT] To avoid attacks from angry wives. I DO NOT call my wife “FishLips”. This is the username she picked when joining FishLore. I do call her Hun, Love and Beautiful but never FishLips. Well… except on FishLore.

Yes, that is correct. But they are a low brackish. They'll need 1.005-1.008SG. Brackish tanks really are simple to set up and run. Definitely not like saltwater. My first tank was brackish.

It just so happens I have a 16 gallon tank sitting here with nothing in it..lol...It's not cycled yet though..VERY CLOSE..but not yet..I give it a day or two..So I'm going to take a look at the figure 8's to see if I like them more then the dwarfs..All my tanks need some live plants so I"m gonna check that out too.

I know you did try to help and you did mention in your post that you had no experience with RTSs. So I was really hoping for some input from RTS experts as I do not want to turn our tank into an experiment.

DOH, I think I’ve hijacked another thread. But on the upside my own threads seem to really take on a dark side.

And I do so much want to do the “right thing”. We’ve made so many mistakes and have tried so hard not too. Thank goodness we found FishLore!
