They get up to 10-12" when full grown so they need at least a 100g tank for a full grown pair. Tank mates and thing not too aggressive as they are a mild aggressive cichlid. We have 4 juvenilles 4-6" 2 gold and 2 green in our 120g with 8 fancy plecos. They all do well, even have funny squabbles with the plecos over the plecos's food. lol

They usually reach 8".

You could keep a pair in a 55gal as minimum tank size as long as you have good filtration (say 500+ GPH if using HOB; 300 GPH if canister). They don't grow as fast as Oscars do and are way less messy.

A bit shy at first, my Severums (one Gold, one Green) are 7" already, yet unsexed, have surprised me as great pets. They eat from my hand and interact quite actively with me.

They are considered peaceful more than aggressive, but usually they are listed as semi-aggressive. Truth is, unless they get into spawning, they "bark" but rarely "bite". They are territorial and some times moody: when doing maintenance (e.g. removing the HOBs intake tubes) I keep my eyes on them more than the Oscars, they move fast and I have had my share of fingers nipped so I feed them before doing maintenance. They may be a bit shy but fear no one.

Google "Heros Severum profile" and you shall find good info.

Your tank is big enough for 2 adults. If you want a breeding pair then 5 - 7 babies are okay until a pair forms, but then you'll need to line up good homes for the others and that's not always easy to do. A spawning pair can become very aggressive, so you'll need to get the angelfish out of there when that happens.

Severums are wonderful fish with tons of personality and are very beautiful of course.

You should consider about 26 deg. C (78.8 deg. F). Not too sure your cichlid will get along with your other fishies. Cichlids really prefer to stick to their own kind. But others with more experience are best to advise you on that issue. I've had cichlids and they really get nasty as they age. Just my experience.
