Guppy Stressed or Normal?

Hello ALL,

I have placed my pregnant guppy in the breeding box although have noticed it is trying to borrow (dig its head down) looking like its trying to get out. im not sure if this will over stress her or she just needs a lil time to adjust. ( reason i put her in is because she looks huge, gravid point is showing well and found her a few times hiding where all the filters and heaters are). her although to sisters lol (other two female guppy's are also fairly large but smaller then her are acting normal so i guess they have a while until they maybe ready.

the tempreture has been hotter then usual for them so i assume this may speed up the fry or is this a urban myth

Thank You,

I'm not an expert on the subject but I will give you my opinion for what it's worth. Being netted and thrown into a tiny box would certainly be stressful when she is used to having a large tank to swim and move around in. I know I’d be stressed out if you took me out of my home and stuck me in a little closet and I too would certainly be looking for a way out. In this case it is a necessary evil.

From the research I’ve done increasing the temperature will speed up the delivery process.

Good luck with the fry!

thanks, she has settled in and isn't as stressed, i think its 24-48hrs if she hasn't had the fry then release right?. i removed the barrier between her and the fry to create more room i hope im around when she has them and dose not eat them all if im not around.

Mike, if you feel she is close to delivering I'd leave barrier in. Delivery and eating will happen quickly. I will however let others advise you as to when you should release her.

I would take her out of the little box and give this a try:

Spawning net for any "egg robber"

It's simple and easy, plus it will give the fish as much room as you want them to have, while giving the fry a chance to swim away to safety,if you're not around when she delivers. This net is a good idea.

Up your temp for early birth can work but you risk having weak fry that could die, sometimes its best to let nature take its course.
In your birthbox make sure you have lots of plants in it, this will help your guppy feel safer and help in keeping the fry from being eaten too, I tape a piece of dark paper on the outside just to outline the nest on the tank too, so the guppy will feel like she is in a cave and a bit safer, this has worked for me. Good luck
