Welcome to fishlore
Angels really like 30 gallons or bigger. I would say if you can't get your koi angel a bigger tank to tank him back to the LFS. I might be wrong but platys are not the best tank mates for Angels. How many fish and what kind do you have in your 20 gallon?

I also noticed you have ammonia in your tank. Which means it is either not cycled or going through a mini cycle. What are your readings for nitrite and nitrate?

hey hoff thx for the reply, at the moment i have only two platys and the angel, prob would only want to get one more fish in there especially if it was of a largish size, also i am pleased to report no traces of ammonia found in my latest testing, just a mini cycle i think, thanks for your concern, so what your opinion on my situation?? im open to any ideas... in hindsight i should have gotten a bigger tank but now that i have the 20g id probably rather keep it if possible... thanks a heap for your help!!

20 gallon is the minimum size for an Angelfish..They prefer tall tanks over long tanks because of their body shape..Angelfish can be aggressive. You have a couple of options. You can take the angelfish back because it's the one causing the problems and if you have a 20gallon long that's a good idea anyway IMO then keep the platy and get more or some other fish that our compatible with it but keep in mind platys are live bearers and if you get males and females to end up with more fish then you can handle from them breeding.. Or you can take the platy back and get a larger schooling fish for the Angelfish..Larger tetra's like the black skirted tetra are good tank mates. It takes 5 fish to make a school and they get to be 2inches a piece. and Angels are 6 inches. The general rule of thumb is 1inch of fish per 1 gallon of water. I could be very wrong about this. Please wait for another opionin..I'll see if I can't get Lucy or someone to move this to a new thread so you'll get more attention.
I'm glad you no longer have ammonia in your tank..What are your readings for Nitrite and Nitrate and what are you using to test your water?
