| What about mollies? I keep reading posts and seeing about the platys not knowing what most fish are and still learning, I went and looked for a picture and found one. Now here is my question all this time I thought silly me, petsmart said it was a molly. And looking at the picture I have a platy. Are they catorgized in the molly family? |

| Platies and mollies are very similar... They're both livebearers. But Mollies usually get bigger, and there's the balloon variety. |

That statement reminds me of one I heard on TV a couple of weeks ago. This guy stated "Once you get beyond our differences, we're all pretty much the same." |

| Male red wag platy.
I have also heard of red wag swordtails but my fish look like your pic and came labeled as a red wag platy.
There are all kinds of mollys but I think it would be strange if one happened to look identical to a red wag platy... silly fish store people. |

| underneath their tummies males have a little sticky-outy fin called a gonopodium or something like that. Females just have a normal fin. Here is a picture of a male and a female. The first one if female the second is male |

| Ive heard of them called "moons" before too. There is a big difference between platys and mollies though. |

| I've heard of moons as well. I have not ever seen anything with signs saying moons. I just assumed that people called platys moons sometimes. |

| Mollies breed like rabbits. The first time i bought 3 mollies, apparently one was a female and the other 2 were male. Needless to say, she killed the other 2 (I still don't know how), some danios, and a neon tetra. She had 2 pure black fry. only one's left now though. |

| I am getting a platy. Usually the platys are much sleeker and have a smaller tail. |

| My personal opinion is that Platy's are cuter than Mollies.
And yes, he is most definitely a Red Wag Platy. In fact, he's probably the long lost brother of our Red. |
