| Getting different fish Hi everyone. I wanted to say I will get fish that are suited to my 10 gallon tank. I will get a pleco when I have a 55 gallon tank. I think I might be keeping 2 or one pictus catfish or silvertip shark( I saw one at the petco I live close by to) a snail, and maybe 2 neon tetras. So what do you think? Am I overcrowding? Will they get too big when they grow up? Well, bye! Also, I am sorry about being that way two days in a row! I will try harder to not be so rude. |

| I don't know much about fish at this point, but I think that the neon tetras are schooling fish, and do best in at LEAST a group of 3, if not 6-9... I'm not totally sure though. Just my thoughts. I don't know how big the others get, but as I'm sure you have heard before, research is the greatest thing to do BEFORE you make any leaps... Find out how big the adult size of all of your dream fishies are, and figure out how much space they need, each inch is per gallon, and that will tell you if you are overstocked =) Sorry I'm not a lot of help though. |

| Well, I will try to get 3 neon tetras. I can just get one pictus catfish or silvertip shark. I won't mind. The snail is optional, though. |

| The pictus catfish has a minimum tank requirement of 20 gallons (they get 6", which is really too big for a the length of a 10 gallon tank), the silver tipped sharks get 12-14"...
I think a great plan for your tank would be 3-4 neons and the snail, or 3-4 neons and 3 corydora catfish. |

| Wow! That is too huge! I guess I can see if they have other cool fish like platys or corydoras. But I will get fish that can live peacefully and not get overcrowded. Say, could you give me a list of fish that could go well with the fish? Last edited by Plecolover12; December 5th, 2008 at 06:30 PM.

| You just want some ideas of fish that are peaceful?
Or that would go with the neons? |

| Well, I want fish that would not crowd the tank when they grow up. |

| Well, neons would be good. Most kinds of tetras really.
Tiger barbs, some other kinds of barbs
Guppies
Corydoras betta
Dwarf gourami
Otos
Zebra danio
Kuhli loach
Endlers
Platy
Snail dwarf puffer
All of these fish could fit one to a small school within your 10g. (Not one of each, lol)
I'm glad you're making the decision to get fish that will fit and wait on your pleco. He will be very happy when you get him and put him in the 55 g. |

| Well, I would say I would get a guppie, since they have a lot of beautiful colors and has a nice, flowing tail. Or, I might get a mickey mouse platy! Thanks for the help! |

| Well, I think I might get a mickeymouse platy. And I will do my research on it! Well, see you soon! I'll be right back!
Well, I looked at the platy at petco.com and I am glad that the platy will only grow 2 inches. I am going to look at the neon tetra.
Well, good news! I found out that all the fish I want will fit the tank! I am so glad now! I might actually get three platies because there will probably be enough room left. And I know they only grow 2 inches. Also, I think I will get ghost shrimps. How many ghost shrimps can you have in a tank with 2 platies and 3 neon tetras? | I would introduce 2 at a time just for precautions of overworking your bacterial bed, even though ghost shrimp have like no bio load I would intro 2 at a time. |

| Well, thank you for the information! I am excited because this is my first freshwater tank. But I think the store has only one. But it won't make a difference. At least I will have other fish! Last edited by Plecolover12; December 5th, 2008 at 07:43 PM.

| If you do get Platy's you might want to get all males, so there isn't a population explosion which will over crowd your tank. |

| Well, I can sell them to the pet store. I am getting 2 platys and one guppy and a ghost shrimp. What do you think I should feed the guupy? It said to give it meaty and algae foods. Is that fish food, or human food? Also, if my guppy has fry, should I leave the male, female, and baby guppies together in a regular tank? Last edited by Plecolover12; December 6th, 2008 at 10:43 AM.

| I think that would be fish food they are talking about.
You may want to make sure that your fish store is interested in buying any fry from you. Since those fish breed so readily, many times you will find a hard time finding someone to take them off your hands for free.
I don't know what to do once the fry are born, since I've never had any, so I can't be any help on that. |

| A varied diet is best, so try to feed them a few different foods a week. |
